Medicine Publishing has nearly 40 years' experience in publishing review journals presenting current medical knowledge and practice in a structured 'curriculum' format, since the launch of Medicine in 1972. Today, the Medicine Publishing portfolio includes journals covering the major specialties of surgery, anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, histopathology and orthopaedics.

Our aim is to describe accepted principles and practice, and to indicate recent advances that will improve understanding of disease and the care of patients. This information is provided for clinicians, trainees, students and others wishing to update their knowledge on a continuous basis.

Medicine Publishing is proud to announce the winner of the 2010 Surgery Journal Prize

The Surgery Journal Prize is a national essay writing competition run by Surgery and aimed at UK medical undergraduates. For 2010, papers were invited on the topic of 'Simulation in Surgery' and we received a good response of submissions. These were judged by three assessors chosen from the Editorial Board of Surgery who, after careful deliberation, selected one overall winning entry and two runners-up. Lydia Hanna, a final year medical student at St George's University, London was awarded first prize - £500 with of books and journal subscriptions from www.ElsevierHealth.com and attended Surgery's Editorial Board Dinner to receive her prize. Her article will also appear in Surgery and online shortly.

Two other runner’s up prizes of £250 worth of books and journal subscriptions were each awarded to Shaun Shi Yan Tan, fourth year medical student at University of Glasgow and Shehab Jabir, final year medical student, also at St George’s University, London.

The 2011 Surgery Journal Prize will be launched this autumn when the essay topic for the prize will be announced. Submission deadline will be 28th February 2011.
